The Box Rockets are a new band straight out of the always thriving Melbourne Music scene. Recently release their EP No Control which debuts the bands own blend of Indie/Pop/Light Rock. ‘No Control’ (also the single from the Album) is a perfectly catchy lean song that hooks you in from start to finish and doesn’t bore you in between with unnecessary filler.
Sighting the likes of The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and The Beatles as influences. These great bands have produced some of the catchiest songs around, Read the full story

Santa Monica based, Awolnation, is the solo project of Aaron Bruno. The concept behind his music not only comes out in the genre-mashing nature of his sound, a hi-fi pulse of electronic-rock/hip hop, but also encompasses his brand(of AWOL), which he explains as escaping “a situation you can’t handle. A way for all of us to get our aggression out, Read the full story

Psychedelic garage band, Mini Mansions, is an American modern-day Beatles, if you put aside their ethereal, grunge-goth sound not too far from a more pop-inclined Pink Floyd. “Monk” shows the whimsical side of their many catchy tunes off the LA threesome’s self-titled debut album. Although, “Kiddie Hypnogogia” is a perfectly nostalgic fit for Read the full story

Ever heard of Munchausen by Proxy? No? Well they’re only the best fictional band ever. Check out the world famous Jim Carrey in Yes Man and you’ll discover Zooey Deschanel proving her rock chops. Sure her pipes shone bright in Elf, but this actress turned dorky rock star teamed up with guitar maven Matt Ward (read: M. Ward) to create She & Him.

I had to go old school for this week, mainly because I can’t get enough of this song. Hopefully you’ll feel the same. Before there was Van Morrison there was Them. I mean they were Them. I mean, err…never mind. Founded in 1964 out of Belfast, the band released one single unsuccessfully before going in to record their version of Big Joe Williams, “Baby Please Don’t Go.” The band’s manager brought in session musicians to help record, one of them being none other then Jimmy Page. After a television debut the song jumped up to no. #26 on the charts and eventually cracked the top ten. And on the records B-side, Van Morrison’s now-legendary “Gloria“.
